1974-2006

Jay Dee, the Hip Hop architect who gave us Slum Village in the early 90′s, has passed away after struggling with an undisclosed illness. Strangely, Dilla’s critically acclaimed Donuts instro set only dropped three days ago (same day as Pun’s death anniversary).

Naturally, folks who once slept on the late beat maestro will emerge from their miserable caves to crown him the greatest producer of all time…a little too late. Truth is, Hip Hop will never know another producer like Jay Dee, ever. His style was too dynamic, too relentless, and way too esoteric to be emulated.

Heartfelt condolences to J Dilla’s family and the Hip-Hop community. He’ll truly be missed.

I never cared too much for J Dilla. It’s extremely sad for someone to die so young and for Hip-Hop to lose yet another artist, but these fakers need to get over it. It’s Aaliyah revisited.

Point being that he *wasn’t* the greatest producer of all time…not even top 10, never mind top 5, but there’s mad kids all over the net all of a sudden professing how great he was. If you liked him, cool, but you *know* he ain’t the *greatest*. Plus, half of these people probably couldn’t name 10 songs off his discography. Deaths attract leeches…

wow …way to put people in a box…if thats all its about ( seeing ..who the “fakes ” are ) why bother even doin hiphop in its essence anymore …i thought the point when people die is to get people to know who that person was …and make a posthumous fan base… pull your head out of your ass and realize the big picture…why hate on something thats dying …lets be proactive and take it back to 75′ ..and yea …this kid speakin is only 17 …there is hope …RIP DIlla.. unfourtunatley another one lost …peace
