Have you ever walked in the shadow of a giant
Not only your client, the prez y ditto, Hola Hovito
The game getting foul so here’s a free throw
I was always on the other side of the peephole
Then I dropped “Jesus Walks” now I’m on a steep hole
And we know, New Jack City gotta keep my brother
But to be No.1 I’m gon’ beat my brother
On that “Diamonds Remix,” I swore I spazzed
Then my big brother came and kicked my ass
Sibling rivalry only I can see
It was the pride in me that was driving me
At the Grammys I said, “I inspire me
But my big brother who I always tried to be
When I kick a flow it was like pick and roll
Cuz even if he gave me the ROC it was give and go
I guess Beanie‘s style was more like a slam dunk
And my sh*t was more like a finger roll
But I had them singles though
And them hoes at the show, go on mingle yo
I told Jay I did a song with Coldplay
Next thing I know he got a song with Coldplay
Back in my mind I’m like, “Damn, no way”
Translate Español ‘No way José
Then I went and told Jay Brown
Shoulda known that that was gon’ come back around
Shoulda talked to you like a man — Shouldatold you first
But I told somebody else and that’s what made sh*t worse

My big brother was BIG’s brother

So here’s a few words from your kid brother:
If you admire somebody then go ahead and tell ‘em
People never get the flowers while they can still smell ‘em
An idol in my eyes, god of the game,
Heart of the city, Roc-a-Fella chain
Never be the same, Never be another,
No. 1 Young Hov, Also my big brother

BTW, Beach Chair > Homecoming

The idea that that’s even a dis is really a dis is unreal. He says the next line that he’s the best rapper ever. He just basically was saying sorry after.

This song is pure genius. The content flows perfectly and the punchlines are ridiculous (“When I kick a flow it was like pick and roll
Cuz even if he gave me the ROC it was give and go”). This song is clearly not a diss but rather a rare look into the behind the scenes relationship that Kanye has with Jay. It’s pure honesty from Kanye which he was able to transform into one of the most vibrant and unqiue songs of this hip hop generation. He took a risk of being called soft for “sucking up” to Jay and it definetly payed off. The only “diss” in the song is Ye’s procalmation that Jay stole his idea for the Chris Martin collabo. He immediately says that he himself handled the situation poorly and that he actually escalated the problem instead of deading it. This song is a dedication to the best rapper alive from someone who has the balls and familiarity with Jay to do so.

Nas isn’t the greatest rapper alive, Jay is. Does that answer your question?

And good 4 Kanye man 4 keepin’ Hip-Hop alive with creative lines and honesty in his joints. We need waaaay more of that and waaaay less snap music with all these new dances, shuckin’ n’ jivin’ and coonery.

Ye took a risk but a risk that paid off well…that song is vibrant with pure honesty and sincerity. I see why he was saying its not really been done like this in hip hop before until now..

This attitude won’t last long. Sooner or later his jealousy will emerge, you see satan loves jay more. Just like their god, they will let their selfishness/ego consume them. there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth!

Great lyrics, but tepid references. Would have worked much better if the various links actually pointed to pictures, news, and/or video related contextually to the song’s content.

if everyone would stop and think about the title of the song then maybe we would forget about the “disses” in the song. He def. does disrespect Jay with the coldplay line and about not playin at madison square, but the song is called big brother. Part of brothers is honesty, you can respect someone and still find flaws with things they’ve done in the past.
