The Rage Against Nasir

A little over a year ago, I read somewhere that Nas had joked about releasing an album titled N*gga. Little did I know then that this would make headlines in ’07, as Nas readies another album. I’ll reserve my comments on the issue until the title has been officially verified or debunked by Nas himself. But here’s what Nas said about the N-word earlier this year:

Racism is ugly. Our people are faced with a serious dilemma, what do we do? You got conservative, rich black folks that are above the word “n—a.” Rightfully so. Then you got the word n—a, which has the genius of the black mind and has been changed into a billion-dollar word through Richard Pryor, who should own it. Paul Mooney should own the word. N.W.A, Dr. Dre, should own a piece of the word. “N—a” has changed into a billion-dollar franchise. It’s just a smack in the face to all the races that we’ve changed that into a positive. You’re gonna have brothers and sisters who are educated who don’t need it. You also have a world who lives in it, who deals with it every day on levels that are unbearable. [MTV]

    the good thing is, the fox news piece is really only going to be seen by midwestern-white america and old people who weren’t buying a nas album in the first place.

    nas should be smart and turn that into even more of a reason for people to buy the album…as hip-hop has always been…f the establishment

    i was at the roseland and he did say it. i wasnt shocked cuz he said the same thing prior to the hhid album.

    It prolly will end up being the “N” or “the N-word” or something…but you never know. Def Jam just might give Nas that lee-way..lol @ Imus tryinna use this excuse to cop pleas, this is the problem I have with the use of words like this..when one group uses it, it leaves less room for arguing that such and such other group can’t.

    Nas is a smart man. He is also a marketing GENIUS. I have no doubt in my mind that Nas will sell as much records as Kanye West. He Probably will outsell Kanye in the first week.

    All this N-Word stunt for his new record is just for the public to spread word of his new record. It’s called free marketing. Word of mouf spreads. You get free TV time, you piss of a few important people. BAM!

    Thanks to those hotHeads, Nas will go double Plat in no time. He’ll probably get there faster then Kanye.

    Who’s gonna go out of there way just to Make there own Nas’ greatest hits CD?

    It’s time consuming. Well not that much time consuming. But I rather make FOX and Mr Jackson shut the fock up.
    Make them find something more important to talk shit about.

    I owned the Kanye CD before it came out into stores. But even thou, I rather support my folks by buying there CD Also.
    So I’m glad I bought Kanye’s CD on 9/11 @ 12:12AM
