I don’t see it anywhere on ew.com, but Lupe is featured in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly. Margeaux Watson asked him if he was picked on a lot as a kid, and he had this to say:

“When the gangbangers would try to pull it, I was like, ‘Yo, I will f**k you up. And if you wanna call your cousin, call him. I’ll call me! I’ll call me right now.’ We were shooting TEC-9s when we were babies, so the whole gangsta image, that ain’t nothing.”

Lu, you’re my dude and all but this one gets a big N*gga Please.

    2. Lupe went to THORNTON. I went to the wood..suburbs of the chi.
    3. He claims the west side cause that’s where he spent most of his life
    4. however corny, chi-towners tend to love to talk about their gangster days like that is cute, he got caught up in the hype even though he changed.
    5. ever notice how chi town people are always like “I live in the projects!!” even if it was only for a day?..that’s what lupe was on.
    6. I respect LU cuz he doesn’t degrade women
    7. I hate that he uses the word “nigga”. watch the boondocks my guy.

    Some of ya’ll are hating ridiculously. It’s west side Chicago! You GOTTA be hard or you’ll get swallowed up. Plus Lupe has gone through that “gangsta” mode. (Sam Jackon voice) YOU AIN’T HEARD HIS MUSIC!? His mixtapes contain early tracks where he was rappin about slanging, shootin and all that “G” shit you so called gangstas love. Check the interviews and radio shows on youtube with him too. Plenty artists know of his antics and WHY he chose NOT to rap like that anymore. Knowledge is power so learn something . . . peasants.

    I think the comment was a little exaggerated but people need to stop hatin on the west side of Chiicago. You dont know what is like until you actually been there or lived there. I been in chicago all my life and it dont make me no better or worse than any body on here. So get with the program and stop hatin, Chicago is whats up, and you just wanna be there!
