I don’t see it anywhere on ew.com, but Lupe is featured in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly. Margeaux Watson asked him if he was picked on a lot as a kid, and he had this to say:

“When the gangbangers would try to pull it, I was like, ‘Yo, I will f**k you up. And if you wanna call your cousin, call him. I’ll call me! I’ll call me right now.’ We were shooting TEC-9s when we were babies, so the whole gangsta image, that ain’t nothing.”

Lu, you’re my dude and all but this one gets a big N*gga Please.

    I don’t know if you read the rest of the interview but he talks about how there was a crackhouse next door to where he lived and it was trying to expand and his father went over there with a gun and he was hanging out the window holding a gun. I have heard some crazy ass stories from friends about Lupes childhood that kinda grew up with him, so I believe this story, no question.

    he said the coolest memory he has (if you watched the dvd that came with the best buy cd version) was when his dad took him somewhere in the country or something and they were shooting guns out in the wilderness.

    I live in Chicago. I like Lupe as an artist but that statement is over-exaggerarted. He grew up on the west side but did anybody know that Lupe went to a South Suburb high about 15-20 mins. south of Chicago?? I love his talent but keep it gangsta and keep real.

    The only reason I don’t completely doubt it, is cause he used to be roomates with Stack Bundles, and that dude was pretty gully, before he got his cap peeled back. So maybe there was a time…long ago…

    I woudnt doubt tha qoute jus because of tha fact that Lupe grew up on tha Westside of Chicago and it not being p**** is different from being hood/gangsta or watever else u wanna call it. And i think he def. embellished how he wudda really sed it, but satire draws more attention. (like its doin now)

    well what lupe has to say is the truth , dont know about the aricle . but he was actuall really hood and changed his life around when he became muclim . he used to sell and do some shit . i remember lupe when he had mad jewelry and 50 thousand dollar cars . before he blew up .. and another ddude that gets busy , well been gettin busy was loon , his parents use to push major weight in harlem .. loongets busy too.. RIP my nigga stack bundles i miss seeing you in your beamer nigga runnin in and out of the jects .. what alot of yall dont understand is that real niggas dont talk about what goes down , the ones really vocal about what they do you should take them with a grain of sal. niggas doin real dirt dont want the image unless they are stupid and feel like thats what makes them gully .
