Most Anticipated Albums of 08

Unlike 2007 which brought tons of excitement, this year’s lineup looks uninspiring (so far). We already know that Dre’s Detox won’t happen anytime soon. The G-Unit album will probably be disappointing without Buck Marley. And that Eminem comeback seems highly unlikely this year. It’s probably too soon to tell. A lot can change between now and year-end.

For now, here are the ones I’m looking forward to:

  • Nas, Nigger
  • The Game, LAX
  • Bun B, II Trill
  • Gnarls Barkley, The Odd Couple
  • Big Boi and Andre 3000 solo albums
  • Jay-Z’s November album
  • CRS album (wishful thinking)

What do you think? Who’ll bring the excitement in 08?

    Also, I have a feeling that Game’s new album will be a classic. New N*E*R*D album should be a nice summer party album…

    Is Detox even on the radar anymore?!?!?!?

    Honestly, I’d be (pleasantly, most likely) surprised if the CRS album actually drops this year. It seems pretty uneventful so far indeed, I’d like to add the upcoming albums by Re-Up Gang, Cage, Pete Rock, Del and Ice Cube though.

    Based on some of the songs I have heard, I think Snoop DoggEgo Trippin will be the first great rap album of 2007.

    Some people don’t consider Missy Elliott a rapper, but I like some of the creative things she brings to rap. Her albums may not be all of that, but at least she tries to bring some flavor to the game.

    That Nas‘s Nigger disc has been overhyped so much, I just don’t care anymore. I praying that Nas brings some intelligence and thought-provoking themes on his forthcoming LP.

    On the indie tip:

    Murs‘ new LP and Buckshot/9th Wonder‘s collaborative disc are high on my list.

    And I know a lot of people hate this guy — for whatever reason — but Minneapolis rapper Atmosphere is supposedly coming out with a new CD this year, as well. I like his stuff — so I would like to hear what he’s bringing this time around.
