You’re right. She did say “he’s rap” which makes it even more bizarre.

That’s not bizarre at all. She’s telling the truth. Rap is known to be the corporate term, the “pop” term. He’s bubblegum rap at it’s finest and without him, there wouldn’t be anything to juxtapose. We’d be all listening to the same old thing. God bless Soulja Boy! I wouldn’t buy or listen to him, but he definitely makes me anticipate Madvillainy 2 so much more!

    or any other GOOD album.

Rap = an element of Hip Hop.

All this revisionist nonsense gets on my nerves.

What’s often going on is that if people like it, they say it’s hip hop, if they don’t, they say it’s rap.

It’s like when people look at bad art and say, “that’s not art!”

Yes it is. It’s just bad art.

Love him or hate him, Soulja Boy is still hip hop.

    ^^Agreed 100%

That’s the thing though. It’s not that I like or dislike his music. And I never said that he wasn’t hip hop. I clearly stated that they referred to it as the Corporate term, which does take away from the main elements of hip hop. Rap is to hip hop as Alternative is to Rock and Roll. It’s about the audience it reaches. But we shouldn’t even be going back and forward about who is what, although I’m feeling the debate. It’s just good to see hip hop still relevant in today’s culture.
