Nas has adopted a new tradition of dissing at least one arch-nemesis within the first 3 minutes of his albums. On Hip-Hop Is Dead‘s introductory track, “Money of Bullsh*t,” he went at Jim Jones with “Put a barrel in the Capo mouth.” Now, he’s taking aim at fellow Queens MC, 50 Cent on “Queens Get the Money,” which happens to be Untitiled‘s opening track.

There must be an inside joke being passed around within the anti-Boo Boo circle of MCs. Common clearly dissed 50 and G-Unit on his last album’s intro. Now, Nas is doing the same exact thing, even borrowing some of Com’s words. Peep the full lyrics and decide for yourself if it’s a shot or not.

Ayo,
Queens get the money, n*ggas still screaming, paper chasing
While presidential candidates is planning wars with other nations over steak with Masons
Pregnant teens give birth to intelligent gangsters, they daddies faceless
Play this, by ya stomach, let my words massage it and rub it
I’ll be his daddy if there’s nobody there to love it
Tell him his name Nasir. Tell him how he got here
Momma was just having fun with someone above her years
N*ggas is still hatin’
Talking that “Nas done fell off with rhymin’, he rather floss with diamonds”
They pray, “Please God, let him spit that uzi and the army linen,
That shorty doo-wop rolling oo-whops in the park reclining”

Take 27 emcees, put them in a line and they out of alignment
My assignments since he said retirement
Hiding behind 8 Mile and The Chronic
Get rich but dies rhymin, this is high science
Now add 23 more for queens to be more, I’m over they heads
Like a bulimic on a sea-saw
Now that’s 50 porch monkeys ate up at the same time

Nasdaq, y’all gon’ bow holmes, this is Dow Jones
80 cal. chrome, needed time alone to zone
The mac left his iPhone and his nine at home
My queen used her “Milkshake” to bring ya’ll to my slaughterhouses
I do this for the group home kids and boarding houses
This that n*gga sh*t that’s on the album
For them n*ggas inside the chalk lining, 40 houses
Bring back Arsenio,
Hip-hop was aborted, so Nas breathes life back into the embryo
Let us make man in our image, spit it,
I’m Huey P. and Louie V. at the eulogy throwing Molotovs for Emmett
You ain’t as hot as I is
All of these false prophets is not messiahs
You don’t know how high the sky is
The square mileage of earth or what pi is >>>> (WTF, Nas?)
I’m the shaky hand that touched George Foreman in Zaire
The same hand that punched down devils that brought down the towers

I think it’s a shot, the 27+23=50 factors into it as well. Dope verse.

“You don’t know how high the sky is/The square mileage of earth or what pi is”

Maybe I’m slow today, but how is this within the context of the verse? As an isolated statement (or question), it makes sense. But what’s the underlying point he’s trying to make here?

    definitely a Curtis Jackson dis
i think he handled it rather smoothly tho’

    some minor corrections…

“uzi in the army jacket linen”
    should be
“uzi in the army jacket lining”

    and

    “Nasty Nas that”
    should be
    “Nasty Nasdaq”
(it correlates with the Dow Jones line)

The square mileage of earth or what pi is >>>> (WTF, Nas?)

He’s referring to the teachings of The nation of Islam and/or The 5 percent Nation.

Nas did indulge (as most knowledable rapper did as well).

What up Donny G? You gotta come back up to the station! I’ll holla!

50 said in an interview recently that he thinks Nas fell off lyrically and honestly if u listen to why he feels that way I think lots of old school Nas fans would agree with him. It wasn’t a diss as much as an opinion.

    @Kizzle,
50 didnt question Nas’s “lyrical capabilities” He just said that sometimes simplicity is an art and if you really want to get an important point across its important that everyone knows what your saying and not just the few who are already familiar with what your talking about. An emcee can be lyrical but still say something in laymen terms and sometimes Nas would rather say shit that sounds deep than to say shit that is deep.

Queens Get The Money is fire. I’m not denying this track. I wish the album had a few more tracks on it like this one.

Got’cha! So would you say that Ghostface, Canibus, Nas, Pun (RIP)etc., fall in that “category”? Let’s not forget that Curtis is an opportunist especially when discussing his “enemies”.

You’re 100% right, Darius. As long as the artistry doesn’t get in the way of the message, I’m all for it. I’m sick and tired of people making excuses for mediocre rappers.

    ————————–

This is also a crucial point. Sometimes artists get bloated and confuse inaccessibility with art. There’s a clear distinction, and only the best understand how to navigate this thin line.

Not to be picky.. but Nas is QueensBridge and 50 is South Jamaica, though they are both in Queens its like claiming B’More and DC cats are in the same neighborhood.

There shouldn’t be a question of if Nas is taking a shot at 50. He is.

While I agree that Nas may find more success by making the art more accessible I for one don’t think it needs to be done. We need more lyrical content that you have to dissect and digest.

I agree but I don’t think thats what Nas brings consistently. I don’t always find his lyrics as engaging as u seem too.
