I was listening to the radio the other day and I heard some words that no sane man should ever say to a woman. It was something along the lines of “gorgeous” or “beautiful,” some corny shit like that. The song generally portrayed females in a positive light. Clearly, it violated the Unified Bitch Theory. Dude even went as far describing his love interest as a “queen” instead of a “female dog,” which is what Dr. Dre and Dr. Snoop would’ve prescribed. I was in utter shock because of the unseemly words oozing from my speakers.
As I squirmed in my seat, I wondered, “Does music dictate culture or is it the other way around?” Are we about to see a bunch of young boys running around calling women “queen”? Does rap music encourage misogyny or does it simply mirror a culture of misogyny? You know what? Fuck it, who cares.
Here’s the deal. Next time you run into a hater and he asks you why rap gets so much flack for misogyny, show them this gracious playlist, then tell them to shut up and savor the misogyny. Bitch.
