While listening to a rap song on the radio recently, I heard some words that no sane man should ever utter to a woman. It was something to the effect of “gorgeous” or some corny shit like that. The song generally portrayed females in a very positive light. Clearly, it violated the Unified Bitch Theory. Dude even went as far describing his love interest as “a queen” instead of a “female dog,” which is what Dr. Dre and Dr. Snoop would’ve prescribed. I was in utter shock because of the unseemly words that oozed from my speakers.
As I squirmed in my seat, I wondered, “Does music dictate culture or is it the other way around? Are we about to see a bunch of kids running around calling women “queen”? Does rap music encourage misogyny or does it simply mirror a culture of misogyny?” You know what? Fuck it, who cares.
Here’s the deal: next time you run into a hater and he asks you why hip-hop catches so much flack for misogyny, show them this gracious playlist, then tell them to shut up and savor the misogyny. Bitch.
