5 Artists That Influenced Pete Rock

Stevie Wonder:
Where else do you think the Chocolate Boy Wonder got his soul-tight swagger from?

Tom Scott & The California Dreamers

Tom Scott’s “Today” led to Pete’s most popular work and undoubtedly one of the greatest rap songs ever, “They Reminisce Over You.”

Miles Davis

Pete was one of the first producers to effectively merge the worlds of jazz and hip-hop, thanks to influences like Miles Davis. In fact, Pete’s Soul Survivor II album cover is a nod to the Miles Davis album Tutu.

James Brown

Marley Marl
Marley Marl was the biggest hip-hop influence on Pete Rock’s style. Marley was working miracles with the TR-808 and his favorite sampler, an SDD-series, before Pete became a household name for his sampling prowess.

i gota commend you for doing this kind of thing. too often the genius (and not so genius) artists dont get this kind of treatment unless they pass away. its a cool concept, hopefully you get to do more of these with some other legends soon

Thanks, gM. I had no idea whether anyone else would feel the same way I do about his work, but I decided to do it anyway.
