When Beasties Boys’ catalog is discussed in hip-hop circles, License to Ill (1986) and Paul’s Boutique (1989) often come up in conversation. Rightfully so. Both are certified hip-hop classics. Ill Communication (1994), on the other hand, is an underrated gemstone.

Ill Communication, the Beasties’ 4th album, was just radically original and commercially successful as their first two. Led by the raucous “Sabotage,” it flew to No.1 in its debut week. Their VIBE cover story (rest its soul) was the magazine’s first on a white artist.

The boys themselves announced on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that Ill Communication will receive the re-issue treatment it deserves on July 14th. The re-issue will pave way for the arrival of the Beastie Boys’ 8th album, the hilariously titled Hot Sauce Committee, due sometime this fall. An exact date to be confirmed shortly.
