So, Drake has had every girl in the world thinking that they were the definition of the “Best I’ve Ever Had” ever since his mixtape dropped. At first, it appeared that the light skinned boy wonder from Toronto could do no wrong in the eyes of the female demographic he was (successfully) targeting. And who could blame us for loving it? When was the last time a hip-hop song came out that was specifically for us carriers of estrogen that didn’t include the words “hoe,” “bitch,” “slut” or any variation of “I just wanna fuck you tonight”?

Women loved Drake, guys loved him for creating that song (and thus giving them a new line to use to “impress” any and every chick) and it seemed as if Drake could do no wrong.

That was until the “Best I Ever Had” video dropped.

Somehow, Drake and Kanye (the video’s director) managed to turn a cute love ode into a boob-filled, soft porn mini-movie. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against boobs, seeing as I have a nice set my damn self. But the entire video took away from the song’s intended meaning. Instead of making women feel special and loved, which is why 99.9% of us loved the song in the first place, it made us feel objectified. And how could it not?

It was 5 minutes chock full of pretty models bouncing around bra-less and gratuitous scenes of chicks stretching. The scene where he told every girl on the team that they were ALL “the best” took away any special conotation there was to “the best.” However, my personal favorite was when he told the girls to “Take that D! Take that D like the champions that they are!”

*blank stare*

Really?! That didn’t even SOUND right coming out of the graduate of Degrassi High’s mouth, nor was it necessary. The video was a disaster from the moment it started and the backlash against him and it was immediate.

Drake lost a chunk of his fan base the day that video was premiered. Maybe one day, he’ll get them back. I hope so, because if he hadn’t figured it out by now, I’ll be happy to tell him that females are probably the only demographic still buying CDs at this time. To piss us off is not the best thing to do, not even from a business standpoint. Bottom line: That idea was definitely not “the best he ever had”. Then again, neither was getting Kanye to direct his video. *shrugs*

After listening to that song, you have to be pretty dumb not to know what it’s about. It’s about him telling every girl she’s the best. Wasn’t hard to figure out from the lyrics.

how did i miss this drop? very well written, and an interesting viewpoint that i doubt drake or kanye saw when making this vid. very poor choice IMO.

    42 comments? Drake won.

So you actually thought Drake was singing specifically to you? I’m sorry but Drake is no Michael Jackson. Only MJ can pull off some shit like that. LMAO @ females.

“Why would I let a video change how I feel about an artist…”

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Hahaha @ females getting pissed off at the video when the song DOES have the words bitch and ho, and also has romantic lines like “I can make yo pussy whistle”. Ya’ll gotta clean your ears out next time.

i actually thought it was a message to women in that video/ Tits and ass are not everything and to wake the hell up. Stop being shallow and stupid. and stop letting a man tell you that your his best when hes telling 50 other women the same thing. simple clear message WAKE UP WOMEN

rizoh if you turn this site into some feminist bull shit forum i vow to never visit again.

  • J to the AAP

Wow, haven’t seen the comments run wild like this since Rizoh crowned Wayne emperor of the universe. Nice one C.

I don’t think this is ever gonna turn to feminist forum (Cuban Linx anyone?) but does that mean an issue like this can’t be adressed? It’s definitely a newsworthy story in the game right now regardless of your viewpoint.

By the way, starting your comment with a ‘hoe please’ or anything similair immediately disqualifies your participation in any healthy discussion and might even disprove your own point. Blanket statements like ‘all rappers are misogynists’ don’t help either.

I know the internet gives people a degree of anonymity to the point where they think they can think they can just blurt out any brain fart but you’ll really make a stronger point if you keep it civil.

    Everyone just calm down!

Drake did not lose his fan base because of the video. The women who liked this song are women who just like songs for the beat and hook anyway. They’ll be back on the next single. If you listened to the “game” he was spittin’ throughout the song you would know that he’s just trying to hit. These women wouldn’t know love if it smacked them in the face. Then again, some women think gettig hit is love too. Hmmm…

    @ The Disgruntled Baller,

I have my opinion, as you have yours. However, calling me a “ho” is unnecessary just because my opinion differs from yours. You say that “no matter what, someone will complain…get over yourselves”. Ironic, when you’re complaining about MY blog post. I give you the same response, homie. Get over yourself.

    Have a nice day,
