So, Drake has had every girl in the world thinking that they were the definition of the “Best I’ve Ever Had” ever since his mixtape dropped. At first, it appeared that the light skinned boy wonder from Toronto could do no wrong in the eyes of the female demographic he was (successfully) targeting. And who could blame us for loving it? When was the last time a hip-hop song came out that was specifically for us carriers of estrogen that didn’t include the words “hoe,” “bitch,” “slut” or any variation of “I just wanna fuck you tonight”?
Women loved Drake, guys loved him for creating that song (and thus giving them a new line to use to “impress” any and every chick) and it seemed as if Drake could do no wrong.
That was until the “Best I Ever Had” video dropped.
Somehow, Drake and Kanye (the video’s director) managed to turn a cute love ode into a boob-filled, soft porn mini-movie. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against boobs, seeing as I have a nice set my damn self. But the entire video took away from the song’s intended meaning. Instead of making women feel special and loved, which is why 99.9% of us loved the song in the first place, it made us feel objectified. And how could it not?

It was 5 minutes chock full of pretty models bouncing around bra-less and gratuitous scenes of chicks stretching. The scene where he told every girl on the team that they were ALL “the best” took away any special conotation there was to “the best.” However, my personal favorite was when he told the girls to “Take that D! Take that D like the champions that they are!”
*blank stare*
Really?! That didn’t even SOUND right coming out of the graduate of Degrassi High’s mouth, nor was it necessary. The video was a disaster from the moment it started and the backlash against him and it was immediate.
Drake lost a chunk of his fan base the day that video was premiered. Maybe one day, he’ll get them back. I hope so, because if he hadn’t figured it out by now, I’ll be happy to tell him that females are probably the only demographic still buying CDs at this time. To piss us off is not the best thing to do, not even from a business standpoint. Bottom line: That idea was definitely not “the best he ever had”. Then again, neither was getting Kanye to direct his video. *shrugs*
