    Fred Hampton Senior, David Hilliard and Huey P. Newton, those were real revolutionaries. The rest, including Eldridge Cleaver led to the decline of black socialist radicalism and started the turn into ineffectual identity politics and racist quackery.

    And I’ll add that even though he is maligned and put into the same category as Sharpton by a lot of the hiphop community, Jesse Jackson’s push into the Democratic Party in the 1980s was very significant and never compromised its principles.
