The Crucifixion of Van Jones

For the uninitiated, Van Jones was forced to relinquish his position as Obama’s green jobs czar after Glenn Beck and his ilk did an excellent job of painting Jones as a communist, anti-American racist member of the 9/11 Truthers movement. Regardless of your stance on the Van Jones controversy, you can’t deny that Jasiri’s flow is nasty.

ps…this is a Van Jones quote

“I met all these young radical people of color – I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, ‘This is what I need to be a part of… I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary…I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th..By August, I was a communist.”

Jasiri needs to get his facts straight.

Van Jones decided to be a revolutionary, because he saw the problems of society as systemic and decided not to be on the same side as the people who beat the shit out of Rodney King.

Then he decided to try to influence things from the inside. Tried to revamp the system, do some good, but he attacked for being a Black man who didn’t pay enough respect to the ruling class when he was a kid.

Red-baiting in American politics is ridiculous. I’m a big fan of Michael Harrington, American democratic socialist, his book the “Other America” inspired the War on Poverty of the 60s. The Sweedish Prime Minister in the 80s said to Mike that if he was from his country— with his intelligence and charisma– he would be prime minister and not a marginalized radical. How long will the political of debate in America be this narrow?
