Earlier this evening I was listening to Bob Dylan’s Masters Of War and I couldn’t shake the feeling I heard an amazing cover of it a few years back but didn’t remember where, when and most importantly, who did it.
After calling a buddy and shooting back and forth some band names he mentioned The Roots covered this a few years ago. This could very well be the one I half remembered since I’ve been to their show every time they were in The Netherlands for close to ten years. A quick Google search made me stumble upon an article by the Village Voice, which made me have to get my hands on a recording, and a whole lotta dead links to said recording posted in 2006.
So consider this an over-elaborate excuse to being caught without a late pass. And while I’m probably breaking all kinds of unwritten laws of the blogosphere with this, after finally stumbling upon something I could rip into an mp3 I just had to share it because this cover by The Roots is OFF. THE. CHAIN. Enjoy.
