Wale’s Response

View Comments 23 November 2009

hi my name wale and i came to get it, i came to get it

My piece on Wale’s unsuccessful debut somehow found its way to the man himself. He was receptive to the analysis, but he also had some reservations. Many of you seem to agree with the first 6 points I raised. Others noted that this doesn’t necessarily spell the end of a career. I agree. I don’t expect Wale to bury his face in his hand and walk away. In fact, he can rebound from this loss and go on to have a long and lucrative career if he plays his cards right. In other to do that, he’ll probably need to relinquish any ambition of becoming a supa dupa pop artist and focus on what he does best. The rest will take care of itself.

I’m still confused on how Wale “loss?” I rather have Wale bitch and complain about his label undershipping/not undershipping his album then M.O.P. just drop an album and do nothing to promote it on their behalf. I agree he can “rhyme his ass off,” but as we know “rhyming” your ass off doesn’t equate to commercial success and $ (i.e., Royce, Sha Stimuli, Ghost, etc). Rappers don’t rap to get props..they wanna get paid.

I say all that to say this I’m not mad at the direction of the album. He has room to grow. Still bumping it.

*side note* can you add something to the comments to let me know when other’s are added. I visit the site a couple times a day, but would come more often/comment if I had that notification that someone commented on the same post as I did.

    Another long one. hahah.

I like how everyone is talking about Wale having songs with Lady GaGa and Gucci Mane like he has a choice over it all. At the end of the day, the label makes those choices until you become big enough to make decisions on your own.

When you put out hit singles with no features, then they decide to give you some “say” in the issue. But don’t diss the man because he got signed and the label told him to have songs with popular artists that would damage his image to “hip hop heads”; doing so will make me assume you haven’t been paying attention to music industry too much lately, let alone hip hop.

Your never gonna really know why Wale album flopped, becuz if it was undershipped and you couldn’t find it a real fan would order it. Not be like “oh well i couldn’t find it” I kbow for a fact Wale has more then 28,000 fans. Now listen my beef wit ADD is that it was a disappointment, I mean it was all “real hip-hop” but I fell in love with Wale after i heard 100 miles & running in early 08 then he dropped Mixtape About Nothing, which IMO woulda been a better album then ADD. It was too many themed songs dug, he didn’t have enough metaphors, he didn’t go hard, that’s wat his album was missing and that’s why it disappointed alot of people, I still bought the album at DTLR cuz thas my favorite rapper currently, but I say he need to go hard next album lik 100 miles & running x mixtape about nothing x add cuz i fuck wit 90210, and shades.
