50 Cent: “The best rapper in the world is a white man”

Em whispers sweet nothings in Fif's ears

Esquire has a new feature on Curtis (more like a collection of quotes), where he kicks knowledge on life lessons, business decisions, and whatnot. Some of the quotes are so catchy I’ve considered putting them on a shirt. Some are downright ridiculous. Among the noteworthy quotes is a bogous claim that Eminem is best rapper in the world.

“Air Jordan. Tiger Woods. You know how a person is made for something? Eminem is made for hip-hop. The best rapper is a white man.”

Marshall is great. Every hip-hop fan has a favorite Eminem song. I have an original copy of every album he’s ever released (granted, I’d like my money back on 2 of them). He’s one of my all-time favorites, but it’s preposterous to label him the GOAT. Top 10? Definitely. And that’s a great accomplishment for an MC as inconsistent as Em.

So, who would I rank ahead of Slim? G. Rap, Biggie, Kane, KRS, ‘Pac, Jay, Nas, Scarface, and Rakim. Then again, what did they expect 50 to say about his boss? Em and Dre gave him a career and his current lifestyle. It’s the least he could do.

Em is the best there’s no doubt bout it.
No matter which way you look at it, he’s one of the few rappers that’s gonna go down and stay in history for as long as rap exists..

I agree with Rizoh on the inconsistency of Eminem. I think he may be the most talented rapper ever, but he definitely does not always shine. Also, his best years are already past him, so I don’t expect him to change my opinion anytime soon.

    1. Tupac
    2. Biggie
    3. Nas
    4. Eminem
    5. Big Pun
    6. Jay-Z

^No love for Talib on that list? lol

Anyway, Eminem is obviously pretty nice…top 10 material, definitely…and I don’t know about his best years being behind him, but I do think his best material is behind him…he shows glimpses of his past self, but then he releases some ridiculously wack tracks sometimes…and while he does kill freestyles, why does Em seem to feel the need to say some ridiculous over the top no homo-needing shit in his freestyles?

It’s pretty hard to get into a top MC debate, since there are so many aspects of an MC, but saying that Eminem is the GOAT with the number of albums he’s put out in the time he’s done so…I don’t think that’s a good move considering the work of some other rappers…but since 50 puts a lot of stock in sales (and Eminem put him on), it would make sense for him to say what he said, since Em has sold MAD albums compared to any other rapper.

haha jay over em? are you serious? Man, i love your site but thats just funny. I don’t even know where to begin with that one, so I’ll use Jay’s words “men lie, women lie, numbers don’t” haha. Em gave Jay (an admittedly commercial rapper) a 6 album head start and still sold more records. oh yeah one more thing about that, RENEGADE. Em killed Jay with an old verse haha.
put em on a beat with anyone and he will come out on top. how else should we judge rappers?

This debate revolves entirely around what each of us thinks makes a rapper great. Unless you agree on that first, it is hard to have a conversation because the parameters of the dialogue are not clearly defined. Even then, rap is art and art (like beauty) is in the eye (or ear) or the beholder (or hearer).

Black Thought and Em prob the two best lyricists. Whose better is a debate that could go on forever. Em still takes the crown over any other emcee.

I got a list. Here’s the order of the list that it’s in. It goes Reggie, Jay Z, Tupac and Biggie. Jada, Kurupt, Nas and then me. And when I’m not put on this list that shit does not offend me.

^^^ lol… fair point. Before I read this I felt that maybe em wasnt the greatest to do it. But that’s just made me think: why the fuck not?

to answer my own question. He don’t got illmatic or blueprint, shit that spawned other artists and defined a generation same way radiohead is responsible for coldplay, muse and keane and such.

I personally jay is greatest to do it. He still killing shows till today like a rolling stone. And although not unflawed he’s generally been consistent. Only person I see surpassing him is Kanye or maybe Wayne. Eminem still defo top 5 though!!!

Em might’ve had a showstealing verse on the track Renegade but when it comes to the album it’s on…

The first Blueprint > any Eminem album.

By the way, I can’t get with that ‘Greatest MC Alive’ ish either. He’s definitely top 10 material but right now he ain’t even the hottest in Detroit. That’s right Street Hop > Relapse in a major way, and don’t sleep on Elzhi either!

good call with Elzhi – dude is nasty and Even tho Em doesn’t have an illmatic – Marshall Mathers LP was pretty good… Like I said if were talking just on the lyrical front, talent/ability, wordplay, rhyme scheme, Punchlines.. best alive/relevant now – em, Jay, Apathy, Black Thought, Buckshot, Elzhi, Pharoahe, Mos Def, Common, Joell Ortiz, Royce. there’s my 10, or however many it is, listing them would only cause further controversy lol and its probably not even worth it.

and pink floyd was responsible for radiohead, and buddy guy was responsible for Jimi hendrix, and Em was responsible for Asher Roth. That arguement goes nowhere. Just Blaze was responsible for the musical shifts, hell everything jay talks about changing on BP3 refers to his production, he hasn’t changed anything by recycling B.I.G. lyrics.
I love Royce and all, but he is not, nor will he ever be on eminem’s level.
First, i dont think Street Hop > Relapse. i also don’t think BP > Marshall Mathers, i mean you wanna talk about changing the game? WHITE PEOPLE RAP NOW! I’m not sayin there weren’t white rappers before, but they were gimmicks who got no respect (especially by white people). I will give you that Premo and Just Blaze> Dre.
I mean you can make an arguement for anyone, but the fact is put Em on a track with ANYONE and his verse wins, and if Jay wants to talk record sales (like he does with everyone who disses him) Eminem blows him out of the water.
J to the AAP, i am glad you mentioned Elzhi, that unmixed tape is sick

Man how the fuck are you guys sleeping on J Cole? Eminem ain’t got shit on him. Eminem lacks content but he’s a good lyricist, I’ll give you that. And Eminem wonders why hip hop fans rate his verse on renegade higher than any of his albums. If he spit the same caliber as he did on that song in his albums, he would be in my top 3.
