New York Media Obsessed with LeBron … and Photoshop

If LeBron James doesn’t move to the Knicks next season, New York will have a bunch of disappointed fans on its hands.

But it’s not just the fans that seem to be wrapped up in this delusion. The New York media is already hard at work dreaming up images of Bron Bron in Knicks uniform. There’s no question that the Knicks have been positioning themselves to enter the LeBron sweepstakes this summer. By moving Jared Jeffries, Jordan Hill and Nate Robinson and picking up Tracy McGrady’s expiring contract, they now have the flexibility to max out on two championship pieces next season. Plus, they could potentially sign 3 or 4 new players to play alongside those championship pieces. Scary.

I know that all 30 teams will run up their phone bill trying to land LeBron, but the only two parties standing in the way of the Knicks are Cleveland and Jay-Z. Danny Ferry is not an idiot. He’s shown that he’ll do whatever it takes (overpaying for Shaq’s services and signing Antawn Jamison, for example) to keep LeBron in Cleveland. And you can bet your last LeBron bobblehead that Jay-Z will try to sweep James off his feet by offering him an opportunity to play for the soon-to-be Brooklyn Nets alongside the NBA’s most promising young center, Brook Lopez, and the best free agents money can buy.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Pity for NY it won’t happen. I doubt it, strongly. It might devastate the city if ‘Bron leaves. Their NFL team hasn’t done well in a LONG time, so the Cavs happen to be the bright spot, from a sports perspective.

Alex – It’s definitely wishful thinking. Teams are going to be mightily disappointed because the whole 2010 free agency sweepstakes is grossly overhyped. Most of these players will re-sign with their teams.

Red-Eyed Jedi – Brook Lopez is in his 2nd year in the NBA. He’s only 21. He’s damn near averaging double-double (19 pts & 9 rebs), which, by the way, is better than all the guys you mentioned right now. But it’s not just about having a statistically superior season, he’s developing fast and showing signs of greatness.

Why would LeBron go to New York? What has the New York Knick done recently. I’m preety sure LeBron wants to win a ring.
