Here’s a wrap-up of the week’s best tracks, including new jawns from Canibus, Snoop, Trae, and Grafh. Plus, my thoughts on all the songs. Enjoy.
Malcolm & Martin – “Thank God
“Thank God” is the buzz single from Malcolm and Martin’s debut project, Life Doesn’t Frighten Me, slated for release via DJ Revolution’s Millenia Music and Soulspazm Records.
Ripperland (feat. The Goddess Psalm One) – Canibus
The criminally underrated Psalm One joins forces with Canibus on this mellow banger off the latter’s new album.
Trae – I’m Beamin Remix
Trae jacks Lupe’s beat and drops kicks some of the realest rhymes he ever wrote.
Snoop Dogg – “I Wanna Rock” (West Coast Remix) (Ft. Crooked I, Daz, Kurupt, Ras Kass)
If any west coast MC could pull off a remix of this magnitude, it’s Snoop. This is way longer than it should have been. Other than that, it’s a winner. Would it be a bad idea if Snoop kicked back and made compilation albums only?
RUKUS – The Name’s Ruk
H-town native Ruk makes his case on this hard-hitting track.
Red Bottoms – GhostWridah
You may be forgiven for sleeping on GhostWridah. I cringed when I first saw the song title. But after the first listen, I played this over and over and walked around yelling “red bottoms” to strangers.
Lou Armstrong & Sheek Louch – Gettin’ Bread
Further proof that Sheek Louch will always find a way to stay relevant. Has anyone seen J-Hood lately?
Grafh – Bring The Goons Out (Remix) (Ft. Cassidy, Bun B, Jim Jones)
It took me a while to warm up to this song because the beat is a xerox copy of Cassidy’s “I’m A Hustler,” but the remix just made a bit more tolerable.
Destiny’s Child – You And Me
I’m a sucker for good R&B and Beyonce’s click provided that sometimes, as evidenced by this previously unreleased gem from D.C.’s glory days.
Ryan Leslie – When I Think About Luv (I Do, I Do)
R-Les is one of those rare hybrid artists that’s cool enough for the ladies yet hip enough for the fellas. I’m feeling his latest mid-tempo burner. That said, can we agree that it’s no longer stylish to intentionally misspell words?
