T-Mac to New York, K-Mart to Houston

It’s not the blockbuster trade Houston fans were hoping for, but it’s close. In a three-team trade involving Houston, Sacramento, and New York, the Rockets have finally moved T-Mac nearly 2 months after I wrote that they’d have trouble trading him. Peep the breakdown below:

Sacramento Gets…
Joey Dorsey, F (from Houston)
Carl Landry, F (from Houston)
Larry Hughes, G (from NY)

New York Gets…
Tracy McGrady, G (from Sac)
Sergio Rodriguez, G (from Sac)

Houston Gets…
Jordan Hill, F (from NY)
Jared Jeffries, F (from NY)
Kevin Martin, G (from Sac)
Hilton Armstrong, C (from Sac)
2012 1st Round Pick (from NY)

The deal makes sense for New York. If T-Mac has anything left in the tank, he’ll make NY attractive as they get ready to dive into 2010’s free agent sweepstakes. If T-Mac doesn’t produce, they’ll still have enough salary-cap space to max out on two star free agents (e.g. LeBron, Wade and Bosh) this summer.

Houston gets a scorer that will help them immediately. If Martin stays healthy (he’s injury-prone), they’ll pair him up with Yao next season and pick up one more impact player from free agency. This would’ve been a perfect deal if Rockets didn’t have to give up Carl Landry, who’s been a Sixth Man of the Year candidate all season.

The Knicks may also swap 2011 draft picks with the Rockets. Better still, they agreed to send Houston their 2012 1st-round picks. Not bad at all.

Hey Knicks fans, get used to this scene because you’ll see it a lot:

  5. The C’s looked unbelievably sharp tonight. I hope Nate gives them much needed energy and scoring off the bench.

  9. ^Yup, that’s classic T-Mac. Really, I’m happy for him. Houston wasn’t going to play him, so it’s great to see him go to a team that wants to feature him.
