When LeBron James suggested that the NBA should retire No. 23 league-wide in honor of Michael Jordan, he wasn’t joking. To show that he means business, LeBron has now officially filed paper work to change his own jersey number from 23 to 6 next season. Players who wanted to request a number change for next season had to file paperwork this week.
No. 6 is LBJ’s Team USA number. It represents the birthday of his first son, LeBron James Jr., who shot his way out his mom’s dukes on October 6, 2004. Six is also the total number of championship rings sitting in Michael Jordan’s safe. And you know who else wore No.6? The legendary Bill Russell.
Hey MJ, how do you feel about King James changing his number out of respect for you?
“If you believe that, then I have a pair of Air Jordans that will transform you into a real life ninja. The kid is just trying to sell jerseys.”
