The Boondocks – Season 3, Episode 5
The Boondocks is a documentation of cultural absurdities, with different characters symbolizing the racial personalities in your neighborhood. Ruckus is the self-hating black man, Riley the thugged out youngun, Huey the Afrocentric kid with a basketball-sized afro, and Ed Wuncler III the wigga with an attitude. While he’s not necessarily a principal character, Stinkmeaner’s role as an agent of chaos remains an important element on the show. Stinkmeaner 3: The Hateocracy tackles ignorance and its step-cousin, the crabs-in-a-barrel syndrome.
Stinkmeaner was literally beaten to death in the first two seasons. So, when I first saw Stinkmeaner 3 on lineup for Season 3, my first question was, “How do you bring him back without resurrecting him yet again?” Rather than take the beaten path, McGruder points us to his crew instead. In essence, there’s a whole lotta Stinkmeaners out there.
In this episode we see this crew of three mini-Stinkmeaners: a dude old enough to be grandad’s grandad, his weed carrier, and a female rendition of Tony Yayo. Each is equipped with mean skills that make ass-kicking a breeze. Their sole purpose in life is to “fuck shit up” for no particular reason. The entire episode centers on the incredibly lopsided war between Stinkmeaner’s crew and the Freemans.
McGruder often concludes each episode of The Boondocks with a specific perspective which gives meaning to events that otherwise seem to have no meaning other than to entertain. The Hateocracy was no different.
