Thank you for honoring Prince with the Lifetime Achievement award. No one deserves that honor more than Prince. And thank you for recognizing John Legend’s charity work. While I applaud you for giving props where props is due, I’m terribly disappointed that you didn’t deem it necessary to pay tribute to Guru who lost his battle with cancer on April 19th, 2010. Guru wasn’t just one of the best to ever breathe on a mic, he was an important voice in hip-hop. Together with DJ Premier, he revolutionized the game and left an indelible mark on the industry. Guru gave hip-hop 30 years of his life, yet you couldn’t find 30 seconds in a 3-hour show to acknowledge his contributions to music. Shame on you, BET. Here’s hoping that Guru gets the tribute he deserves this fall at the Hip-Hop Awards.
