You’ve already seen Isaiah Mustafa on a horse. Now look up, he’s on NBC. Yeah, that Old Spice dude is riding the wave of his manmercial success all the way to a talent deal with NBC. Though Mustafa had minor roles on shows like NCIS and Ugly Betty, his big break came in the form of an insanely popular Old Spice Smell Like a Man, Man commercial. He made an indelible mark with such a short spot and turned his 15 minutes of fame into a full blown career.

Mustafa told Variety that after talking with several networks, he honed in on NBC, the one that owned the “Cosby Show” period he grew up in. “To me, they controlled comedy and dictated my life on Thursday nights,” he said. “And I think that’s my strength, doing comedy.”

He adds: “What’s funny is no one knew me as being funny before. Because the only things I had done were these episodics and procedurals where I was kind of this tough guy, prison guard, cop, or FBI guy. So now, people are like, ‘Oh, he’s funny.’ That commercial … really helped me to climb that ladder of success.”

You go, Old Spice dude. [LATimes]
