One of the greatest vocalists of our generation turned 47 today. Happy Born Day to Whitney Elizabeth Houston. People can’t say your name these days without alluding to your personal struggle with the c-word. Me, I prefer to remember you for all those times you rocked my childhood with your angelic voice. Only you could sing the National Anthem and shake the entire universe all the way to its foundation. I’ll never forget the first time I heard you belt out of your finest tunes, “I Will Always Love Crack You.” You’re truly one of a kind, Whitney. I should know; I stole your 1990 album, I’m Your Baby, Tonight, from my uncle’s music library because I wanted to listen to “Miracle” over and over. Happy Born Day, Ms. Houston. Stay up, girl.
