Get your iPods ready, boys and girls. What follows is a mixbag of 10 new-ish hip-hop tunes to help ease you into the weekend.
GOOD Music – BET Hip-Hop Awards Cypher
I’ve said it before, the only reason to watch BET Hip-Hop Awards is The Cypher. This year’s lineup was weak, except for a few bright spots, such as this right here.
Lupe Fiasco (Ft. Common & Jennifer Hudson) – “We Can Do It Now”
Haven’t heard from J-Hud since that horrible tragedy that struck her fam. Welcome back, babygirl. The beat is beautifully cockeyed on some Dilla shit. I can dig it.
Kid Cudi – “Mr. Rager”
“Mr. Rager” is cool, but my favorite Cudi cut out right now is “Manic” with the homie Cage. Google it and thank me later.
Cee-Lo Green – “Bright Lights, Bigger City”
This man has never made a bad song. If you have an advance copy of Lady Killer, you know where to send it.
T.I. (Ft. Rocko) – “I Can’t Help It”
Is it just me or did someone jack the piano licks from Gucci Mane’s “Lemonade”? Tip’s flow is so hood tight though.
Nicki Minaj – “Blow Your Mind”
The dude whining at the beginning makes me nervous. Nicki, on the other hand, should be locked in a cell for this anthem.
Ghostface Killah – “Purified Thoughts”
After that corny R&B disc, it’s refreshing to see Ghost Deini back shredding beats again.
Joe Budden (Ft. Fabolous, Royce da 5’9″, Lloyd Banks) – “Remember the Titans”
Flow outta this world, Loso owned this one. Who else can work Twitter into a rhyme without sounding corny? The illest posse cut you’ll hear all week.
Young Buck – “Came Back”
Buck continues to mine his personal struggles for jewels.
Lupe Fiasco – “The Show Goes On”
Lu tips his hat to die-hard fans while riding one of the coldest beats he’s witnessed in a while.
Cassidy (Ft. Junior Reid) – “High Off Life”
