“Mind Playing Tricks on Me” still gives me chills 500 years after I first heard it. If you enjoyed riding around H-town at night imagining that street lights bounced off shape-shifting reflections, this was your soundtrack. I was bumping it on an endless loop while working on an essay on H-town anthems. Sure, I expected it to still move me. What I didn’t expect was to find a 9-minute club mix, replete with disco drums, cuts, and heavy breathing. It’s actually pretty fucking good, but the term “club mix” is misleading in this case. It’s not exactly a dance ditty.

You’ll notice that it has a prolonged intro. The DJ has extended the loop which creates some continuity hiccups here and there. But it’s still thoroughly enjoyable.
