Action Bronson – “Dance Song”
Bronson drops razor-sharp metaphors with the precision of a swordsman. His Tony Starks-like imagery and sense of urgency suggest that he studied one while shaping his craft. Not a bad role model for a budding star.

The ILLZ – “To Know Your Place in the Universe”
“No time to rest when you’re trying to be a legend,” The ILLZ mutters on this drowsy track. You can almost hear the weight of the world pressing down on the blanket of the song’s sun-dried soundbed.

Phonte – “Blessings”
Tay counts his blessings atop a Khrysis beat so eerily similar to Little Brother’s early work. But that’s no accident. According to Potholes in My Blog, “Blessings” is a track from Phonte’s aborted 2000 album Tigallo Must Die. Bonus: Here’s Tay testing the mic from around the same era.

Consequence – “The Consequences” (ft. Q-Tip)
Here, Cons Tribe influence feels eerily lucid. And it’s not just due to Tip himself sanctioning the rhymes. “It’s like that, baby.”

Blu – “In” (feat. Freddie Gibbs, Homeboy Sandman)
Three of the brightest New School lyricist take the boat on a proper cruise. This is how you subdue a giddy beat, kids.

  1. great post rizoh

  2. nice post..im just a little thrown by the Yonkers vid in the sidescroll, theres not that many true rap blogs..& once these hype-filled artists begin to get co-signs from the heads of rap..the genre will become a thing of the past like that classic soul train r&b my parents listened too..ijs
