Slaughterhouse – “Everybody Down”
We already knew that the other three could connect slam dunks all day. It’s Joe Budden who shows up laced up for the game of his life. “They won’t know I’m a god until I’m nailed on a cross,” Budden barks. If “Everybody Down” is any indication, there’s a stubborn beast emerging from behind the curtain.
Skepta – “Do It Like Me
In ancient Africa, special kinds of music were called for during preparation for battle or hunting. “Do It Like Me” is the perfect marching song for marking a victorious battle. It’s chock full of clever taunts and that bassline is irresistible.
Blaze P. (ft. Reks) – “Heaven Will Repair Us”
A bolt of lightening from Baltimore boardsman/MC Blaze P. Taken from No Dress Rehearsal, out this Summer.
Tyga (ft. Snoop Dogg, Game, and Pharrell) – “Really Raw”
Tyga and Pharrell wring strong rhymes out of notoriously inconsistent Game and a sleep-deprived Snoop. Watching pr0n on your iPad? That’s really raw.
Bloodtype – “I’m Free”
Bloodtype registers its second consecutive 5 Spot entry with “I’m Free.” The fellas dare to venture into an area where peers have been known to sing a one-note tune. “I was raised to hate gay people but turn around taught love by the same people, but I was glad you broke free. If you mad, sue me.” Bold and beautiful.
