This year you’ll have some nice looking reading material during the 4/20 festivities courtesy of Tuff Gong Worldwide and Image Comics. Ziggy Marley has teamed up with artist Jim Mahfood and writer Joe Casey for an oversized 48-page hardcover graphic novel about a superhero who, according to reggae icon Marley, “represents the hope of the future… the hope that we will utilize all of the power that the universe has given us to save our planet”.

Jim Mahfood is probably no stranger to those who enjoy both hip-hop and comic books. He provided all the artwork for MF Grimm’s You Only Live Twice and created the Felt comic for Slug and Murs as well as an ad campaign for one of Murs his solo albums. He drops many references to funk, rap, reggae and other genres in his work and hosts a podcast called ‘The Beat Bee Sessions‘ along with Jane Dope. This project seems like a natural fit for him.

Joe Casey is far from a slouch in the comic book business either. He worked on Spider-Man and WildCATS among many others and is one of the creators behind Cartoon Network’s successful Ben 10 animated series. According to him “this was the perfect project for us to collaborate on because Ziggy’s given us a great concept to go nuts with“.

You might expect a book full of stoner hijinx but Mahfood assures “MARIJUANAMAN is not going to be what people except it to be“. You can read the full press release over here and take a look for yourself when it drops when it drops on the 20th of april. It’ll set you back $24,95 that you won’t be able to spend on grass but the pretty pictures this book provides will surely last you longer than those you’ll see when blunted.

1982 was when Jaap van der Doelen aka J.Monkey shot his way out his mom dukes. A mere two years later he was already battling Big Brother and The Illuminati. Whenever he has time to spare from those efforts he writes (about music, mostly), hosts a radio show and designs graphics for a living. He lives in The Netherlands where he continues to be winning.
