Preemo had a strong outing in 2010, thanks to Concrete Dreams (album) and Flight 713 (mixtape). His stocks continue to soar in 2011, as evinced by his placement on’s Rappers to Watch list, his partnership with Gu Heffner (one of Paul Wall’s managers), his surging web presence, among other signs of progress.

On the music side, the Houston rapper keeps things rolling with his latest batch of new material, The Magic Bullet. The Magic Bullet unspools more threads from Preemo’s life as a burgeoning poet, a devoted father, a passionate hip-hop head. One part heart-tugging rhymes, one part dusty beats, The Magic Bullet is 100% enjoyable.

Preemo explains the idea behind the title.

“The main idea was, ‘I’m about to kill it … with a bullet,'” Preemo tells the Houston Press. “The Magic Bullet is the most famous conspiracy theory. I knew The Magic Bullet would have that kind of impact.”

I don’t know what kind of impact The Magic Bullet will have. But I know that Preemo’s latest is a tall glass of ice cold rhymes on a hot Houston day. One of the best mixtapes you’ll hear all year.

Grab The Magic Bullet below and enjoy.

Best Tracks: “Supernova,” “Chemical Imbalance” (feat. Hollywood Floss), “So Damn High,” “Stand Up Guy” (feat. Rel the Chosen & Sintax), “Where She Started”
