I finally got to see the greatest hip-hop group of all time perform live. I’ve seen some of these guys individually. But seeing them all on the same stage had a different feel. Sadly, RZA, Meth, and Rae didn’t make it. People were angry because they had to wait till 1:30 to see Wu. Some disgruntled fans threw stuff at them.

For some of us who weren’t lucky enough to catch Wu shows in the early 90s, this was a bucket list activity. I had been on my feet for about eight hours but it was worth every second. More importantly, they wrecked. Energy was on point. They played all the fan favorites, from “Bring da Ruckus” to “C.R.E.A.M.” They gave props to the absent members, reenacting Dirty’s verse on “Da Mystery of Chess Boxing” and performing “Method Man” sans Method Man. And, they genuinely enjoyed kicking it together, as you’ll probably notice in the pics that follow. Take a look.

  1. Wu live is a bucket list experience for any serious rap fan. Saw them a couple years back in Belgium and was surprisingly impressed with Cappa’s live performance. He really tore through his ‘Winter Warz’ verse. Seems like there show at SXSW was a great time too.

  2. very nice. i wish pennsylvania got more rap shows from actually talented rappers.
