How much would you pay for this picture? Five bucks? Twenty? Two hundred? How about $3.89 million? That’s how much this photograph of photographer Cindy Sherman went for at an auction. The picture, titled “Untitled #96,” was taken in 1981. It shows Sherman lying flat on her back, clutching a rumpled piece of paper, perhaps a rejection letter or a stir-fry recipe. “Untitled #96″ edged out Andreas Gursky’s 99 Cent II Diptychon, which sold for $3.35 million in ’06, as the priciest shot ever.
