Nas – Nasty

Look what Nas just let loose on Twitter:

Old heads rejoice, Nas has answered your prayers. It’s doubtful that Nas will convert any new fans with this but with a loyal following and legendary status mr. Jones has decided he’d give the purists the joint they’ve been hoping for ever since ‘Made You Look‘. Salaam Remi knocks out a sparse, dusty headbanger to which he adds a break that gives it the rigth amount of bombastic appeal. Throw in some vintage scratching and you’ll start seeing broad smiles on the faces of those that remember the early 90s. Nas sounds completely invigorated, with an agressive and grimey flow we haven’t heard from him in a while (“Any rebuttal to what I utter get’s boxcuttered”). Could it be that Nasir Jones has finally realized he doesn’t need to mimick what’s hot, that people are checking him for his steez? I’ll marinate on that question while I have this joint stuck on repeat the rest of the day.

1982 was when Jaap van der Doelen aka J.Monkey shot his way out his mom dukes. A mere two years later he was already battling Big Brother and The Illuminati. Whenever he has time to spare from those efforts he writes (about music, mostly), hosts a radio show and designs graphics for a living. He lives in The Netherlands where he continues to be winning.
