Hard to believe it was as far back as 2009 that The Black Keys (executive produced by Damon Dash) dropped their awesome and surprisingly organic sounding hip-hop/bluesrock hybrid ‘Blakroc’ through Dame’s DD172. Talib Kweli, U God, Jay Electronica, OC, Curren$y, Wiz Khalifa, Jim Jones, Sean Price and The Cool Kids are all part of the line-up. The previous installment was one of my top 5 favorite albums that year and (on paper at least) it seems like they’ll have no problem recreating that magic. The Black Keys have been pretty busy with their next solo records as well, which is once again produced by Danger Mouse and should be almost done. No release dates for either project yet but we’ll stay vigilant for that.
Sidenote: I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, commercially their ballparks may be so far apart they’re basically on different continents but artistically, so far, DD172 is way ahead of Roc Nation.
