Earlier this week a lively discussion went around the TRU HQ as to what was the best Common album and while opinions wildly varied on that one (yours truly probably sticks with Like Water For Chocolate ’til the casket and thinks y’all need to stop hating on Electric Circus while we’re at it) what was clear was that literally none of us liked
Invincible Summer Universal Mind Control, Com’s last outing before he started to focus on his SAG card. Let’s keep it at that.
Things seem to be looking up though. Ghetto Dreams was a banger but had Nas stealing the limelight for a minute. Still, with two leaks sprung and a score of dope tracks reading 2/2 optimism is cautiously rising. A reunion with longtime collaborator No ID who’s behind the boards again seems to have rekindled the creative fire in Mr. Sense. No ID proves you can take a well-known sample and still get something new out of it and the video doesn’t just look good but shows there is still some videobudget left for people not named Rozay or Jigga. Most important of all though, Common spits his ass off. The Dreamer currently has me turning into a believer.
