When the members of High Society announced they were leaving the Christian music market and dropping a song called “Devil” on Halloween, an extremist pocket of the online gospel rap community immediately started Tebowing.

But now that the track has hit the net, a few things are clear:

  1. They haven’t lost their religion.
  2. They’re tired of being associated with Satan and believe such misguided attempts at dissension may actually be the work of the evil one.
  3. They’re still concerned with making hip hop related high art.

Sure, it sounds like a leftover from Kanye’s Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, but it’s nice to hear the HS crew directly address their critics.

It sounds like they want me to apologize
for getting off the boat and being colonized
Well my man, thank you for the favor
I’ll try loving this dude who hates being my neighbor

The verdict:
3.5/5

  1. Well what where they thinking naming the album “Devil?” Even I thought it was some satanic thing.

  2. I just love how people want to assume the worst when for years (for Sho and JR at least) they’ve shown their heart for God and His truth. I’m not saying people don’t change and go off the deep end, but come on now. Look at people in their entirety and don’t judge them by a song title. I’ll admit I was taken aback at first but then I THOUGHT about it and realized it was probably just an attention-grabber. People have titles like Killa and what not, why not Devil?
