Ever since Snoop caught wind of Mayer Hawthorne’s Motown soul revivalist debut album ‘A Strange Arrangement’ on Stones Throw he has employed his significant pop status towards furthering the career of the rising star. Granting him a cameo in a video and going on to have him tack on a remix as a last-minute bonus track to one his ‘More Malice’ album isn’t where the collaborations between these two stop. Mayer’s new album ‘How Do You Do?’ features one guest appearance and it’s by the one and only Doggfather himself. Snoop doesn’t spit but turns in some smooth crooning that may not be as technically impressive as Mayer’s but serves the song well and is mercifully sans autotune. It’s a surprisingly effective song that’s increasingly hard to get out of your head once you’ve heard it a couple times. That coupled with the fact that the previously mentioned ‘G-Mix’ to Snoop’s ‘Gangsta Luv’ blows the rather uninteresting original out of the water and manages to make it a highly enjoyable cut, makes me wish these two would do a whole EP together. Snoop & Mayer Present The Boss Doggs Of Soul EP or something. Hey, a blogger can dream, right? For now, these two tracks’ll service quite nicely, as well as mr. Hawtorne’s new album, which has been on full rotation at the crib for a week now and is certified awesome by yours truly.
