November 18 and 19 marks a weekend filled with the sharing of knowledge and music on the shores of The Netherlands with Buma Rotterdam Beats. Both a festival and a conference filled with round-table discussions featuring industry insiders like Chris Lighty, Sha Money XL and many others. Besides that, aspiring talent should definitely hit the second day of the conference for the Next Beats program, with master classes, workshops and interviews especially aimed at young and old music industry talent (like a masterclass on production by Om’mas Keith from Sa-Ra Creative Partners). Many artists, managers and label bosses will provide insight into the way they operate. The event doesn’t keep itself strictly relegated towards hip-hop either with soul-singer Charles Bradley performing as well as a Tropical Bass event and a panel on bridiging the musical worlds of Europe and Jamaica besides many other dubstep/electro/soul/dance artists weighing into the proceedings as well. Here’s how the press release describes it:

During the second edition of Buma Rotterdam Beats, the new business platform and showcase festival for hip hop, R&B, soul, reggae and tropical bass, the main musical focus is on international talent. Alongside featuring new and upcoming artists at several locations around Rotterdam on November 17, 18 and 19, Buma Rotterdam Beats is also the ideal meeting point for bookers, managers and deejays who travel the world searching out the latest artists for their festivals, record labels and venues.

Even us bloggers are well represented with a panel where Dan Petruzzi from Okayplayer and Ndilyo Nimindé from Juice Magazin (among others) will speak. There’s no official representation from the TRU nation but there’s a good chance you’ll see yours truly strolling around somewhere.

Oh, and has the first performance of Action Bronson for a Dutch audience been mentioned yet? Good chance you’ll see me downing a beer in that vicinity. Below are videos by Action Bronson and Charles Bradley and a full line-up, more info and tickets can be found at Buma Rotterdam Beats. Seems definitely worthwhile if you’re in the area around that time.

1982 was when Jaap van der Doelen aka J.Monkey shot his way out his mom dukes. A mere two years later he was already battling Big Brother and The Illuminati. Whenever he has time to spare from those efforts he writes (about music, mostly), hosts a radio show and designs graphics for a living. He lives in The Netherlands where he continues to be winning.
