This track right here seems tailor-made for the TRU nation. Not just because the beat Statik made knocks and has a soulful vibe to it while still making your head bop. Not just because the video uses cool effects visualizing the lyrics while Lecrae strolls through them. Not solely because Lecrae tells an honest tale of the hardships love can bring completely devoid of overt sappiness either. Not strictly because he has the ability to use an impressive double-time but is smart enough to employ it sparingly and only when the song calls for it, making sure people probably won’t screw up his name anymore. Or because we were already well aware of his talents due to TRU contributor Sketch his vast knowledge of the Christian rap scene and his informative pieces about artists from that field. No, it’s because of all that and the fact Lecrae reps Houston, home of the homie Riz, while he drops a reference to my native country in his opening verse, uniting the two head offices of the TRU nation into a single, dope song. Thanks Statik & Lecrae.

1982 was when Jaap van der Doelen aka J.Monkey shot his way out his mom dukes. A mere two years later he was already battling Big Brother and The Illuminati. Whenever he has time to spare from those efforts he writes (about music, mostly), hosts a radio show and designs graphics for a living. He lives in The Netherlands where he continues to be winning.
