There’s a new* star in town and she’s under the watchful eyes of No I.D. Dion has taken upstart Jhene Chilombo (aka Jhene Aiko) under his wings over at Def Jam. The R&B songbird tweeted a picture of her newly minted contract last night. Sweet voice. Great attitude. She’s poised for a breakout year in 2012.

And for those not in the know, here’s Jhene’s Sailing Soul(s) mixtape, which boasts features from Drake, Miguel, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and more.

Here’s the Top Shelf Junior-laced clip for “Strangers.”

*I use the term “new” loosely–Aiko has been around for a minute. She signed her first major contract in 2003 but failed to produce an album. She did manage to secure a release and motherhood drew her further away from music. As she says on “Stranger,” a lot of shit has changed. Here’s hoping it’s for the better.
