Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey Launching A Record Label

Raise it up for Ma Dukes once again! The posthumous Dilla album Rebirth Of Detroit, announced last week, is being released on a new label curated by his mom Maureen ‘Ma Dukes’ Yancey. Besides searching through the vast multitude of Dilla beat tapes to find further corners of his legacy left unexplored the label named Ruff Draft will also try to be a haven for undiscovered talent from the D:

We want to make it more feasible to interact with these children; we don’t know how many J. Dilla’s we have out there. Somebody has to find them.

Rebirth of Detroit drops June 6th.

1982 was when Jaap van der Doelen aka J.Monkey shot his way out his mom dukes. A mere two years later he was already battling Big Brother and The Illuminati.
