Now here’s an unexpected but pleasant surprise. Some promo pictures hit the web for a very interesting new project, and though the URL they mention doesn’t point to a website yet, here’s a couple things we’ve managed to gleam from them.
Ghostface Killah, the rapper who’d rather be a soul singer is teaming up with Adrian Younge, a producer who is not only familiar with Rza’s production techniques, but uses that in his overall vision of creating concept-driven soul music project with a heavy ’70s tinge. To top off what already seems like an absolutely perfect partnership, Rza is the executive producer for the project.
Christmas comes early this year, November 20th to be exact.
In case you’re unfamiliar with Adrian Younge’s name, there’s a good chance you came across his work. As composer of the score to Black Dynamite (and the movie’s editor) and the animated series of the same name it spawned, the man has already displayed a strong musical and cultural prospensity towards and era Ghostface is a big fan of as well. His biggest album yet is Something About April, a psychedilc soul concept album about an interracial relationship in less enlightened times, under the moniker ‘Venice Dawn.’
Which incidentally is the title to his first project, an EP you can listen to and download above.

As for the accompanying comic book mentioned in the ad, it’s not a stretch to belive this suggests the album will be concept-driven to. Little is known about the book itself as of now, besides that a google search teaches us it’s being written by Matthew Rosenberg and Patrick Kindlon of Ashcan Press. We’ll keep you posted if new info turns up.
