Azealia Banks can add yet another beef to her résumé. Rotterdam trap beatmaker Munchi has been buzzing for quite some time, and Azealia Banks liked his work enough to take notice and spit over one of his beats for the track ‘Esta Noche’ on her Fantasea mixtape. She didn’t ask for it, but Munchi didn’t either when he sampled Montell Jordan’s ‘Get It On Tonite’ for the beat and seeing how it was on free mixtape everybody involved figured it was fair game.

What Munchi did take offense to however, was when Azalea’s camp decided to go ahead and announce it as her next official single, including a video for it, while Munchi was still in negotiation with Interscope about his involvement and due compensation. Most importantly, he wanted to be involved in the video and artwork to work that had his name attached to it, which apparently threw a monkeywrench into the planning and caused Azealia to ridicule him on Twitter.

“I demanded a creative voice in the video. I’m a religious man and don’t want to cooperate with that satanic shit that’s in fashion, things I’ve seen in her work.”

This sparked a less than subtle tirade from Munchi through the same medium and the rift about what calls his “stolen beat” won’t be closed anytime soon. Writer Saul van Stapele spoke to Munchi for Dutch webmag State Magazine about his side of the story:

“I thought: F*** you, bitch, I don’t need your voice on it, never did. You came to me! They literally took my beat without changing a single thing. I wanted to do the right thing and she puts my name on Twitter like that.

Eventually they offered me $50,000 and a public apology. But don’t you understand? I don’t need your f***ing money. Now I see how it all works. This is standard procedure, it’s just that people usually take the money. They’re bribes, you have to stay quiet and bite your tongue. It’s normal to act like a bitch in this industry. It’s not about the money for me though, music is how I express myself”

It doesn’t seem like the last word has been said about this since Azealia already announced she’ll be shooting the video anyway. We’ll keep you posted. Peep Munchi’s latest tape, mixed by DJ Nappy, below.

UPDATE: The homie Khal just sent over a link to Pigeons & Planes, where you can read a full official statement by Munchi. It doesn’t paint a pretty picture.
