Our Vinyl Weighs A Ton is a documentary film by Jeff Broadway on the story behind Stones Throw Records. Going from label founder Peanutbutter Wolf’s partnership with his friend Charizma and the tragic death of the young rapper to its diverse present day roster, the film uses “live concert footage, never-before-seen archival material, inner-circle home video and photographs and in-depth interviews with the folks who put Stones Throw on the map” to tell the story of the indie behemoth rightfully included in our 5 Greatest Label Runs In Rap History.

The production of a Stones Throw documentary began in late 2010, when French company MediaTV sent Paris-based filmmakers Sébastien Bauer and Lucas Blaya to Los Angeles to begin filming events for the label’s 15th anniversary. Over several months, the two amassed over 100 hours of footage before Broadway
joined the production.

The catch is that director Jeff Broadway needs $35,000 which will cover production trips, shoots and edits of the film to finish it. He’s trying to raise that money through Kickstarter, where 25 bucks give you a download of the film when it’s completed (expected date is July 2013), 50 bucks a download and DVD and donations bigger than that get additional rewards, which depending on the amount, can yield anything from a limited edition T-shirt, Quasimoto rolling papers, or the Kid Robot x Madvillain figurine to an actual trip to Stones Throw HQ and an invitation to the premiere.

It’s definitely a movie I’d like to see, so hop on over there and send over a few bucks if you’ve got them to spare, your plastic will only be charged if the target amount is met, so in case you were worrying they’d run off with your money with nothing to show for it, you can stop.
