DMC-and-Big-Sean

In an attempt to keep my place from being burglarized while I was out, I didn’t bother to mention that I was going on a little staycation at the Omni for All-Star weekend. But I did, and I’m back. The homie Sketch and I comprised 20 percent of the group of “influencers” Footaction picked to cover their All-Star shindigs.

It was loads of fun; I got to hang out with my TRU brother Sketch, as well some elite members of the hip-hop bloggerati like Shea Serrano, Blogxilla, and Darren from Stupid Dope. I posted photos of my celebrity sightings on About.

All of which brings me to our All-Star recap. Below, a list of things that stood out to us during the weekend.

All-Star Weekend by the Numbers: Rizoh

3 Memorable Moments
i) Style consultation with celebrity stylist Rachel Johnson
ii) Jordan Brand activation at Footaction
iii) Party at the Drake with Kirko Bangz, DJ Envy, etcetera

2 Favorite Sightings
i) A pimp who looked like Gus Fring from Breaking Bad (at Jay-Z’s party)

ii) Meek Mill: I hold the elevator door open for Meek Mill and a few others. He scans the group, hesitates, hops in, stands behind everybody, still scanning the group. I ask what floor? Meek goes, “Nah, we’re good.” Funny guy.

1 Fun Thing I Wouldn’t Do Again
Drown in ying-yang shrimp immediately after drowning in Sam Adams. Not a good combination, trust me.

All-Star Weekend by the Numbers: Sketch the Journalist

5 – Approximate 2 Chainz song spins heard each hour

4 – Hours after Fitzgerald’s doors opened that Rakim actually took the stage

Rakim and Painting-

3 – Memorable Moments

i) Seeing the love shared between Rakim and Houston hip-hop fans. As the self-proclaimed “God MC” wrapped his set around 2 a.m., he was fully embraced by the audience and appeared to give a pound, autograph, or photo opportunity to anyone wanting to express mutual appreciation.

ii) “All the K.I.N.G.’s Men” brunch about Biblical manhood hosted by ESPN’s Chris Broussard and his K.I.N.G. Movement. Included performances and panel discussions with rappers Bizzle, Reconcile, and Corey Paul.

iii) Surprise appearance by DMC at the grand opening of Footaction’s Adidas Originals store in Willowbrook Mall. Really, is there a better ambassador for the brand in all of hip hop?

Sean's mascot
2 – Strangest sights

i) Big Sean’s lion mascot wearing a crown of thorns. Don’t expect the G.O.O.D. Music family to back off their corporate co-opting of religious language and imagery any time soon.

ii) Uhhh… you saw those new Jordan XX8s, right? The ones with the neon green, zip-up, alien-pod outer shell? Yeah…

1 – Number of people spotted wearing New Orleans Pelicans gear

0 – Amount of times the phrase “turnt up” was overheard at the Rakim show
